- Pre-approval: soft credit check, no effect on your score
Request a personalized quote
Tell me what you're planning and how to reach you. I'll get back to you personally, usually the same business day. If we move on to pre-approval, it takes only a soft credit check, so it won't affect your credit score.

What happens next
The same three steps whether you send the form, call or text. You deal with me at each one.
-
I reply personally
Your request comes to me, and I read it myself. I get back to you by phone, text or email, usually the same business day, with any first questions I have about your plans.
-
We talk it through
A short call about your goal, the town, your price range or current loan, your credit and your timeline. I tell you plainly which programs fit and which documents to gather; my first-time home buyer guide has the full list.

Your options, in writing
When you're ready, you complete one secure online application and upload your documents once. My mortgage document checklist shows what to have ready. I compare options from the lenders I work with, and we go through the official Loan Estimate together, line by line, before you choose. As the CFPB notes, getting preapproved doesn't commit you to a lender. Pre-approval with me takes only a soft credit check, so it won't affect your credit score. A hard credit inquiry comes later, only when you're ready to move forward with a loan and you authorize it.
Anywhere in Nassau or Suffolk
I work with buyers across Nassau and Suffolk. Most of my clients are on Long Island, and I’m licensed throughout New York State. Buying or refinancing outside New York? Ask me. Depending on the state, I may be able to help.
That covers the whole Island, from Nassau County to Suffolk County and the East End. My Nassau County mortgage broker guide and Suffolk County mortgage broker guide cover the local details. I coordinate with your attorney, agent, title company and insurance agent so nothing waits on paperwork.
Prefer email?
Write to me at Kevin@scottcapitalgroup.com with your goal, your town and a good time to reach you. Please don't email your Social Security number or account numbers; when it's time, I'll send you the secure application link.
What helps me give you a useful answer
- What you want to do. Buy your first home, move up, refinance, take cash out, or finance a rental or investment property.
- The town or ZIP code. Your tax bill depends on the town or city, village, school district and special districts a house sits in, so two homes at the same price can carry very different payments.
- Rough numbers. Your price range or the home's estimated value, plus the cash you plan to put in or the balance you still owe.
- Your timeline. Just starting, shopping with an agent, already in contract, or needing to buy before you sell (here is how bridge financing on Long Island works).
- Condo or co-op? Mention the building. Condos and co-ops can bring building-level requirements that affect which loans work.
- Anything you're unsure about. A late payment, a past bankruptcy, a recent job change or self-employment income. It's easier to plan around early; my guide to getting a mortgage with a low credit score covers the basics.
